

Atascocita is a development outside of Houston that began during the 1970's. It is located on Farm Road 1960, only eighteen miles to the northeast of downtown Houston. The name of the town was taken from the historic Atascocita Road that once followed the route of what is now Farm Road 1960.
The community has grown quickly, particularly during the 1990's as more people decided to move to a quieter area away from the city. The community now boasts over 15 different neighborhoods spread out over the area. The proximity of Atascocita to Houston means that its residents can enjoy a simpler life, while still maintaining their jobs or recreational activities in Houston. The Houston Intercontinental Airport is just 15 minutes away, making it very easy to visit Atascocita and for friends and family to join you in your new home.
As of 2000, there were over 35,757 residents and many new businesses, churches and public works offices sprang up. There is currently a volunteer fire department that sees to the needs of the Atascocita residents. Police protection is provided by Harris County, making Atascocita a safe place to live and to raise a family.
There are numerous schools, a library and many other attractions that make Atascocita a very desirable location for families. It is currently part of the Humble Independent School District, and the town is currently still unincorporated.
Lake Houston borders the community, giving residents plenty to do during the warm summer months. If you enjoy boating or fishing, Lake Houston has plenty of diversions to keep you busy. There are several beautiful community parks, most within walking distance of beautifully maintained apartment complexes.
There are several country clubs and golf courses in the area as well. Atascocita is home to Tour 18, a golf course that celebrates eighteen of American's best golf holes. Humble, TX is located just six miles from the community, and has even more attractions for people of every age.
One of the most unique claims from Atascocita is that it is the Fast Food Capital of Texas. There are numerous fast food restaurants as well as regular restaurants for your dining pleasure.
The Mercer Arboretum is located just six miles away in Humble, TX, and is a great place to enjoy the plants of Texas, all under one roof. The Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center also provides unique opportunities to view white beaches, historic Cyprus trees and much more.
