

Bayou Vista is a residential community that is located just off of Interstate 45 and State Highway 6, about eight miles northwest of Galveston. Texas City is about five miles away, and Houston is just a few minutes from the town. Jones Bay and Highland Bayou are also located nearby.
The community was started in the 1960’s when homes went up for sale in the area. Commuters flocked to the town so that they could enjoy small town life within minutes of the cities where they worked. By 2000, over 1,600 people were estimated to be residents of Bayou Vista.
The town was incorporated in 1985 and currently has its own mayor, city council as well as a police department. A volunteer fire department protects the residents from the threat of fire and adds more safety to the community.
You’ll find waterfront houses and many canals that provide access to Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. These canals were dredged as the community was built to ensure greater access to these areas and improve the local economy.
Even though Bayou Vista is considered a small community, there is much to see and do in the area. The beautiful Gulf of Mexico is just minutes away, and accessible by boat right from the canals in town. If you enjoy fishing or sailing, this is a great community to find an apartment. Antique shops abound in the area and thanks to the historic nature of Galveston and the surrounding towns, you’ll be able to find some rare antiques that may just go back hundreds of years.
You can even take an old-fashioned trolley ride in Galveston, or visit one of the many beach parks in the area. Bayou Vista offers a rare chance to live in a great community that has immediate access to the best parts of Texas.
