Eight miles to the southeast of Baytown you’ll find Beach City, Texas, located on Farm Road 2354 on Trinity Bay. Beach City is a community that was started in the middle of the 20 th century that has a number of bayside homes and several campsites.
At first, the area was a loose collection of houses with no real order. However, in 1963, the Tri-City Beach Civic Association got together to build a breakwater on Trinity Bay. After this occurred, residents of the area discovered that they were about to be annexed by nearby Baytown and decided to incorporate instead.
The decision was passed when the majority of the residents voted to incorporate and in 1966, Beach City was officially a town. The eight-mile-long stretch of land along Trinity Bay had finally become a town.
Following the incorporation in 1966, residents voted to annex an additional 2,000 acres. This occurred in 1968, adding more land to the community. The population of Beach City grew slowly at first, having only 116 residents in 1970. However, this quickly changed and ten years later, 977 people called Beach City home.
Currently, the estimated population of Beach City, TX is around 1,645 residents. The majority of these residents commute to nearby Houston or Galveston and return to their community in the evenings and on weekends. There is currently a town major and alderman to oversee the governing of the town.
If you are interested in history, you’ll find two family cemeteries located within Beach City that were started by two pioneer families, the Fishers and the Burrows. This is a great chance to learn more about how pioneers first settled the area and the challenges they faced.
Nearby Baytown offers many different opportunities for leisure. There is a large shopping center that currently employs more than 2,000 people. This shopping center is renowned as being the largest one-story shopping center in the United States.
Baytown also has a number of tennis and golf tournaments that are conducted every year. If you enjoy playing sports competitively, or if you just enjoy watching them, this is a great way to spend a weekend and its just minutes from your home.
The annual Cinco de Mayo celebration in Baytown is another popular Spring diversion. You’ll be able to get together with hundreds of people to celebrate the area’s history and enjoy a variety of food and entertainment.
