Beasley

Beasley is located near Richmond, Texas, on the Southern Pacific Rail line and US Highway 59. You’ll find the town in the southwestern portion of historic Fort Bend County, Texas.

The town was planned by Cecil A. Beasley in the 1890’s and was situated on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway. This afforded the town many options for shipping and attracting new residents. Beasley had first named the town Dyer, TX after Miss Isabel Dyer. However, it was soon discovered that there was another Dyer, TX and the name was changed to Beasley when Isabel married Cecil.

A post office was built in 1898 and in 1910 a company named the Stern and Stern Land Company that was located in Kansas City, decided to begin promotional efforts to attract more residents. Their efforts paid off and in 1914, the population had grown to 325 and had two churches, a bank, a lumber company, three general stores, cotton gins and even telephone service. The location of the town on the railway provided settlers with a way to conduct business easily and more soon flooded into the area.

The 1920’s brought a filling station and a movie theater to the town and its growth continued. The schools in Beasley reported 284 students enrolled in 1930. The schools were later merged with nearby Lamar in 1948. The population of the town stayed at around 350 until the 1940’s. It fell to 300 in 1949, and had dropped to 175 by 1960.

However, this trend stopped in the late sixties as more people decided to commute to Houston and nearby cities instead of living in them. By 1968, the town had grown to 275 residents and it was incorporated in 1970. The latest figures show that approximately 485 residents currently call Beasley home.

Fort Bend County is home to several historical sites and beautiful parks. You’ll be able to learn more about not only Beasley, but also the surrounding areas and Texas’ struggle for independence just minutes from your apartment.

Brazos Bend State Park is located nearby and is a popular destination for many residents. The Brazos River offers many opportunities for fishing and boating as well as relaxation. A larger town, Sugar Land, TX is also conveniently located nearby and has many attractions, including a popular ice skating rink.

Richmond, the county seat of Fort Bend, is just eleven miles away and features several historical sites, museums and visitor centers. Houston is just minutes away and features professional sporting events, horse racing, shopping, and many different activities for families, friends and single people.
