Bunker Hill Village

This village is located on the western portion of Houston, next to Hedwig and Piney Point Villages. Bunker Hill Village is a suburban community located near US Highway 90 and Interstate Highway 10 in the southeastern portion of Harris County.

The area was first settled by German farmers, who took advantage of the rich Texas soil. Later, residents built a sawmill to produce timber from the local, abundant trees. The community grew slowly, but by 1954, it had incorporated and showed signs of growth.

This incorporation produced a mayor-council government and it was quickly decided that regulations would be passed to prohibit businesses from opening in the community. The residents were adamant that they wanted to keep their community residential.

The area quickly grew after the incorporation and 1966 saw the addition of two schools, and two churches. The population during this time was estimated at around 2,200 people. It has since grown to around 4,000 residents by 1990. The community is largely affluent, and many of the residents commute to Houston and other large cities in the area.

Harris County is rich in history and you’ll be able to visit many museums and historical sites in the area. There are many historic home tours and battlegrounds that will allow you to trace Texas’ battle for independence and the people that made it happen.
