

Deer Park, Texas is a subdivision that was founded in 1893 and was formerly home to a railway station that served the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway. The original location for the town was a private deer park that was the inspiration for the name of the community.
Deer Park has had hardship throughout the years, first booming and then going through a few years of population decline. However, this turned around and the population of Deer Park was most recently estimated at around 27,000 in 1990. This is up from a low amount of 25 residents in the 1940's.
There are many different types of industries that call Deer Park home. These companies manufacture plastics, concrete products, carbon and alkali materials and provide necessary jobs for many of the residents.
Although the town experienced a decline in population and interest in the 1940's, the end of World War II brought many businesses into the area. The Houston Shipbuilding Corporation contracted with the United States Maritime Commission to build a $5 million shipyard in nearby Irish Bend. This new shipyard brought much needed work to existing residents and helped increase the population in both towns.
