El Lago

El Lago is located on two different lakes, Taylor Lake and Clear Lake, in the southeastern part of Harris Count and NASA Road 1 or NASA Parkway as it is sometimes called.

El Lago was started during the 1950’s and was incorporated in 1961. It got its start as a residential community, with the majority of residents commuting to nearby Houston. The population grew quickly during the 1970’s going up from 750 to over 3,550.

This expansion was due to the construction of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Centers and many workers currently inhabit El Lago. As of 2000, 3,075 residents lived in the town.

There are many different attractions in the area, but the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center is one of the most popular. Its first name was the Manned Space Center, but this was changed to honor the former president of the United States. It is one of nine NASA field installations and is also the home base for our astronauts.

The Center is located on 1,600 acres and has 142 buildings. More than 19,000 people are currently employed at the center, including over 100 astronauts. It used for the training of our nation’s astronauts, as well as being a testing facility for our space program.

Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center was built during the late 1950’s early 1960’s, as the United States struggled to beat Russia in the Space Race. The first manned satellite that was put into orbit came from this center and involved the cooperation of many of our nation’s agencies.

The Space Center is still going strong and in 1992, the Space Center Houston was opened. This gives the public an idea of what goes on behind the scenes at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center and was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering.

The Space Center in Houston features tours of Mission Control, as well as the astronaut-training facilities. There is also an IMAX theater, where you’ll be able to watch movies filmed in space. A museum is also located on site and present a walkthrough of the United States’ Space Program from its inception to its current projects.

You’ll be just minutes away from the Space Center in Houston and the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center will be just outside your new home in El Lago, TX. Many apartment hunters have selected El Lago due to its great location, friendly people and beautiful scenery.

Whether you’re looking for a residential community that provides a change of pace from city life, or you just enjoy small town life, El Lago is a great place to rent an apartment, raise a family and learn more about our nation’s space program.
