You'll find Jacinto City, Texas located at the intersection of US Highway 90 and Interstate Highways 10 and 610, right on the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The area is rich in history, particularly about the battles that were fought to gain independence from Mexico. Jacinto City began as a subdivision that was started in 1941 by Frank Sharp. At first, the residents of Jacinto City were comprised mainly of ship workers and workers from nearby steel and war factories.

Inch Chandler started a grocery store in 1947, and the town was incorporated soon after, electing Chandler as the first mayor. The population of Jacinto City was around 3,800 at this time. At first, the city management got off to a bad start. The meetings of the city council were so filled with strife that three separate Chambers of Commerce were started.

In the 1950's a new city hall and recreational facilities were built in Jacinto City and more people began to move to the area. The 1960's saw several churches, schools, a hospital, a bank an a library open up in the town. The majority of the residents of Jacinto City worked in the nearby plants and refineries, keeping with the history of the town.

In 1972, a new waste water treatment facility was added to Jacinto City, mainly due to complaints from residents about chemical vapors that began in 1969. The Environmental Protection Agency funded this new enterprise. The population of Jacinto City has remained steady throughout the years and is currently estimated at around 9,300 people.

The town gets its name from the historic San Jacinto battle that took place in the area. Jacinto City is located just minutes from these historic battlefields and museums. This location affords a rare opportunity to have both the peace and history of a small town with Houston being just minutes away.
