

The community of Lake Jackson, Texas is located in southcentral Brazoria County, Texas, just ten miles from the mouth of the Brazos river. The origins of the town began in 1843, when Abner Jackson built a plantation in the area. After his death in 1861, the plantation began to decline.
1942, the Dow Chemical Company purchased what remained of the plantation with the intent of making a new town for their employees in the region. They decided to name the town Jackson, in honor of Abner Jackson and began planning the new community.
