Magnolia

Just outside of Houston is the town of Magnolia, TX. Originally, it was a small lumber town that was home to several sawmills, but recently, it has grown into a community that is home to around 40,000 residents.

Many of these residents commute to Houston, making Magnolia a bedroom community. However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t find plenty of businesses within the town. Many large businesses from Houston are opening branches in Magnolia, making it even more convenient for the residents to get to work.

As with many Texas towns, Magnolia owes much of its success to the railroad. The Magnolia Depot was built completely by volunteers from the town and one resident in particular, Celeste Gayle Graves, made sure it was the best depot in the area. Her father ended up being the first stationmaster, and Celeste’s life’s work was this depot.

The depot no longer sees the traffic it once did, but you’ll still be able to visit the depot and learn more about how it was built, the kind of cargo and passengers that passed through the area and how it was responsible for keeping the town alive during many periods of history.

Unlike many towns, Magnolia has retained its serenity and beauty, and it is chock full of forests, pastures, and a beautiful rolling topography. This land has made Magnolia a favorite place to live for many equestrians and the community has much to offer them. You’ll find plenty of feed stores, tack shops as well as top-notch veterinary services all in town.

Even though Magnolia is so close to Houston, the town has made sure that it is completely self-sufficient. There are two large food stores, auto repair shops, antique stores and many different clothing stores. You can easily spend an entire weekend shopping and still not hit every store.

The schools in Magnolia are very good and many parents have selected this town to raise their family due to this fact. There are many different activities for children, such as 4-H, drama programs and more to keep them busy after school.

Sports are a big part of Magnolia and the school team is particularly celebrated. You’ll be able to take part in football, basketball, track, soccer, baseball, and softball nearly all year round.

If you are looking for a community that is close to Houston, but still has its own amenities, Magnolia is a great place to rent an apartment. You’ll still feel like you’re in the country, but there are enough conveniences you won’t feel like you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere. Houston is a very short drive away, making Magnolia particularly convenient for commuters.
