

Right on the edge of Cleveland, TX, on Farm Road 2025, is the town of North Cleveland, TX. Located in the uppermost northwestern section of Liberty County, North Cleveland is a residential community that is within a short drive to Houston.
The town was incorporated during the 1960’s, when the residents in the area decided to de-annex themselves from Cleveland, TX. This decision was based on the higher city taxes they were currently paying. This de-annexation allowed the residents to create their own community, and pay less taxes.
North Cleveland is entirely residential, so you won’t find any businesses within the town limits. However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have to drive far to do your shopping. Nearby Cleveland and Houston are just minutes away and offer many different conveniences.
The population of North Cleveland has waxed and waned through the years. In 1966, when the population was first recorded, 425 residents lived in the town. This went up to 471 during the 1970’s but has since fallen to around 176 residents in 1990.
Nearby Cleveland, TX has much to offer. It was first founded in 1836 when the General Land Office began offering land in exchange for service in the military. The first settlers began arriving and in 1878 the community was formed. Charles Lander Cleveland donated over 60 acres to the Houston, East and West Texas Railway, asking that the town be named for him in exchange.
There are many beautiful forests in this area, including the Sam Houston National Forest. This forest offers many opportunities for camping, hunting, biking and fishing. Many Houstonians come to this forest to get away from the rigors of the city. There is also the Austin Memorial Library Center that provides a number of different services to Cleveland.
The current population of Cleveland is around 7,124 residents, still making it a small community. There are plenty of shops and historical sites in Cleveland to keep you busy and provide you with your shopping needs.
